I was required to do small business course as part of my diploma, and after some research and a couple of recommendations from friends I chose CLAD. The course certainly opened my eyes as to what is required to run a business and it got me to consider many ideas I had not previously thought of. I was apprehensive of doing a course on line, but was pleased to find the support and encouragement was available and ongoing. I have already recommended this course to friends, as I believe they too will benefit as much as I have.
I haven't started up my own business yet but am still in the procedure.
Here is a summary of how I found the course:
I found the CBO course an excellent and easy to follow course, It has given me my business plan which I was struggling with, but it also broke it down for me to completely understand and put together. I will and have recommended this course to everyone and the best thing is you do it in your own time.
Thank you to the team at CBO.
The Business Online Course was a great experience for me. The course walked me through ALL aspects of getting a business off the ground and the online web tutoring sessions were very informative without being dull. Being able to ask questions and read what others on the course were asking helped me put things into perspective as well as making some good contacts - networking.
Lisa is professional and a fountain of information. She is very giving of her knowledge and made the online course less daunting than I thought it would be!!!
It gave me the confidence to go for my dream and start my own business. In my Home-based Cottage Industry business, "CreativelyCrafted", I am creating a line of Soft toys that depict Iconic and Endangered New Zealand Native animals, as well as commission knitting, sewing and spinning. A donation from each sale and from a Raffle I am running at each Market goes to Saving the South Island Kiwi.
The Business Ownership Course was the best thing I could have done to make my dream aralistic reality and I fully recommend it to others with even the slightest thought to 'Doing Their Own Thing' or 'Being Their Own Boss'
I undertook the Certificate in Business Ownership during the set up of my company Ables Living Aids Limited. We sell products directly to the public to help people with difficulty undertaking daily living tasks; whether these be long term or more short term (sports injuries, Pregnancy). I believe this course is a must for anyone planning to set up a business or currently owns a small business. The knowledge and networking I have gained have proven to be invaluable. Definately the cost of the course has been the best investment I have made so far.
We had an idea for a business and the course with Lisa at the helm allowed us to define practical steps to actually create a business and get started. Through a process that broke down the fear factor into managable sections and lessening the fear of the unknown we were supported to create a business plan that has carried us into our fourth year of trading! We value the knowledge, diversity, and support that have been so willingly shared and would recommend anyone who might have an idea to give it a go.
My name is Jo MacAlpine and I am in the process of starting my own landscape gardening business called "Thyme Out" in the Hutt Valley, Wellington. I will be providing a gardening service which will cover a range of activities including designing, planting and maintaining gardens for a wide range of clients from landlords, to vendors selling their properties, to people purchasing those properties, to people who just don't go outside in fear of getting lost in the jungle that was their garden. I know that time is precious and if I can (in working with the client) help by taking away that 'big sigh of lost hope' as they pull in their driveway and see their uninviting entrance and replace it with a 'big sigh of relief', I have done my job. As I am still going through the process of starting my own business, I feel so more confident having done the CBO with Lisa. It covered all aspects of starting a small business and I found that having to do the research and groundword etc it gave me a sense of ownership, that it was MY business and I knew what would be going on in it from start to finish. I think that if I hadn't done the CBO, I would be fumbling around not knowing which way was up. Lisa is a great tutor, she has a wealth of knowledge and experiences and pulls the best out of you. I would highly recommend this course to everyone who was thinking of going into business.
I am pleased to recommend the Certificate of Business Ownership course to any new business owner or anyone considering becoming a business owner.
I have spent thousands of dollars on weekend seminars, mentoring groups, and home based courses. I have also been on numerous professional development courses. Lisa runs a course which is equal in quality to any of those and is clearly of much better value. During research for this course I found several online packages which I could use to produce a business plan. This course is a far superior option to those. I think the work shops, group work, direct tuition and speakers make this course far more valuable than any unsupported online option. I quit my day job 3 years ago after 30 years of government service with the Police and ACC. I took this course because I had decided to re focus my business direction. I needed clear evidence and a business plan to support borrowings in excess of half a million dollars for investment purposes. I believe the old adage that says "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". Following what we learned on the first day I clarified and completed a vision statement which I had been struggling with for nearly ten years. The course fulfilled all my expectations and provided a number of other unexpected benefits along the way. Having deadlines to meet and a clear structure to follow helped me get a much better result than I could have gained by trying to do this on my own.
The more you participate in the workshops and commit to completing the modules the better results you can expect.
I sincerely hope that more people take this opportunity as a positive step towards their future freedom and independence.
The course gave me the opportunity to develop my skills and to gain experience in dealing with practical day-to-day issues I encounter in my business. The online support offered by the tutor is invaluable and works really well. I am grateful for the opportunity it offered and can recommend it to young and old alike.
Ken has developed a part time business taming the beast in your home. Attending the Certificate in Business Ownership course gave him the leg up into business that he needed. Ken had a good idea but didn't know where to begin as far as launching his business. The course, he says, made all the difference between success and failure. It gave him a comprehensive overview of the realities of starting a business, bringing to his attention details that he otherwise would not have thought of. Ken says that a realistic attitude is vital when starting out in business and the course certainly helped to provide this.
Although having been in business before, attending the course was an excellent refresher, helping him to improve his basic business skills. The course exposed any weaknesses in his techniques for running a business and provided a comprehensive understanding of the financial side of being in business, giving him a lot more confidence to move ahead with his plans. He found the course gave him a lot of encouragement without pressure, and the feedback from other students was valuable. Tim is passionate about being in business and gets a real buzz out of how successful his venture has been so far.
As a single mother, going into business for herself was a huge step for Helen. The CBO course gave her the tools to research the industry, products and competition. Developing a business plan made her feel like she knew what she was doing and gave her the confidence to take that step. Helen enjoys the independence of having her own business, of being her own boss. She says she goes to work and has fun, enjoying meeting her clientele and watching the business grow. Pleazure 'n' Passion is a retail outlet for lingerie, novelty chocolates, gifts and adult entertainment. It also boasts the only hydrotherapy massage bed in Central Hawke's Bay. With the growing interest in Helen's products she is now hosting adult parties in peoples homes as well as at the shop to showcase her latest toys and lingerie.
For Simone, the most valuable parts of the course were the excellent business plan templates and gaining goal setting skills that enabled her to visualise her ideas and turn them into reality. She found contact with others on the course helpful and encouraging, and says the resources available on the course were very helpful. Simone has since launched a second venture dealing with digital photo storage.
Joanne undertook the CBO course and says she learned a lot, gaining an insight into the world of business and attaining a new level of confidence that enabled her and husband Bryce to begin developing their Dannevirke based digger business. Bryce also participated in the course and says it helped him to understand the realities of going into business.
Even though I have yet to identify my passion, I found the CLAD course an inspiration, with a great insight into what really is involved in setting up your own business. - mother wanting to get back into the workforce, on my own terms.
What inspires me most of all about my relocating to Melbourne is the opportunity to start my business that I am very passionate about. Completing the Certificate in Business Ownership program gave me a very clear indication of what is EXACTLY involved in many aspects of setting up a business to operating it successfully and keep it running. I am so glad I participated in the course, it was easy to follow, understand, manage amidst my busy schedule and most definitely enjoyable.....even the late nights and no sleep was okay because the fact that I was working towards starting a business that I am passionate about made it even more worth while......and as they say....what you put into it is what you will get out of it.
I will definitely recommend the CBO program to anyone I know who is looking at going into business for themselves as i know they will prosper and enjoy it just as much as I have.
